Skupina Limp Bizkit byla založena v roce 1994 v Jacksonville, na Floridě. Všechno se dalo do pohybu, když napadlo dlouholeté kámoše Freda Dursta a Sama Riverse založit rap-rockovou skupinu. Chvíli na to Sam Rivers přivedl do skupiny svého bratrance Johna Otta a do čtveřice se k nim přidal Wes Borland.
Každý ví, že založit skupinu je to nejlehčí. Horší už je pro ni vymyslet nějaké zajímavé jméno. Jejich jméno vzniklo úplně spontánně. O něčem se bavili, když jeden z nich řekl druhému, že jeho mozek je jak kulhavá sušenka. Všem se to zalíbilo, trochu změnili hláskování a jméno skupiny bylo na světě.
Jednou do Jacksonville přijela skupina Korn. Po koncertě se basista skupiny Korn jménem Fieldy a kytarista jménem Head setkali s Fredem Durstem, kterého poprosili o tetování. Fred totiž není jen vynikající zpěvák, ale i skvělý tatér. Stali se z nich dobří přátelé. Když přijeli Korn do Jacksonville podruhé, znovu se s Fredem spojili. Limp Bizkit jim pustili své písničky a ty se hned skupině Korn zalíbily. Slíbili jim, že ty písničky pustí svému producentu - Rossu Robinsonovi - a tak taky tak udělali. Ross Robinson byl velmi nadšený a tak se Limp Bizkit dostali do hudebního průmyslu. Hned na to podnikli koncerty se skupinami Deftones a House Of Pain a první nabídky se začaly jen hrnout. Jeden člen skupiny House Of Pain - DJ Lethal, se rozhodl, že se k Limp Bizkit přidá.
